Kinesiology

There is no one definition of kinesiology. It is rather an umbrella term comprising the study of biomechanics, motor learning, physiology, and anatomy to observe the movements of the human body. The kinesiology course of study is essentially used in sports and recreation activities to rehabilitate, prevent, manage, and enhance the human body movements. They analyze the human motor movements and safety. Ergonomics is also a part of kinesiological studies.

There are two types of kinesiology studies:

Applied Kinesiology – deals with methods to deal with human movement problems.
Pure Kinesiology – understanding and evaluation of human movement problems.

Knowledge of both the methods is essential for treatment of patients. At the International Center of Holistic Healing and Applied Research, the course material is custom made to teach students both the aspects of kinesiological studies. The term used has extensive meanings; they go beyond the study of human movements to deal with other issues such as psychology, philosophy, ecology and sociological implications of sports and exercises that human perform.

This shows that the study of kinesiology is not limited to understanding the concept on a narrow level. A student actually receives extensive knowledge and understanding of other major concepts that comes under the purview of kinesiology. For instance, a student studying the use of anatomy in kinesiology would read about the different human body parts and location of joints or other locative details. Similarly, a student learning physiology in kinesiology would learn about how different body parts interact with one another and work in equilibrium.

A career option for kinesiologist is large. The therapist can be employed by gymnasiums, sport teams, physical therapists and they can also have their personal practice clinics too.
